SPEAKER ONE

Migrant exploitation is now an established risk in the New Zealand labour market. Government has put significant additional resource into compliance and enforcement. Consumer preferences are shifting to expect large organisations to have non-exploitative supply chains.
The Government is setting the direction with a new Suppler Code of Conduct with clear expectations about labour standards and human trafficking and new measures to put broader social outcomes into their significant $41 billion annual procurement spend.
Yet detecting migrant exploitation is challenging. It is incredible complex and requires a systems based approach working with major suppliers.
Sarah and EeMun from MartinJenkins will talk to us about their recent work on migrant exploitation, the key risk factors, how to detect it and what kinds of mitigations can be put in place to enable entities to supply with confidence.
